Fred Katz and the New York Knicks Beat
Fred Katz is an NBA journalist who covered the New York Knicks exclusively for The Athletic from 2021 through 2024, according to his detailed Simon & Schuster biography. This page focuses on that completed team-specific assignment and its place in his broader reporting career.

Exclusive Knicks coverage from 2021 through 2024
Simon & Schuster’s detailed biography of Katz identifies 2021 through 2024 as the period when he covered the New York Knicks exclusively for The Athletic. In this context, “exclusively” distinguishes a team-specific beat assignment from the broader national reporting role that followed.
This chronology establishes the subject and dates of the assignment. It does not, by itself, support claims about the volume, influence, access, sourcing methods, or impact of the reporting.
Individual stories should be reviewed through verified records that identify the original publication, date, canonical destination, and possible access restrictions.

Knicks work beyond the beat assignment
The exclusive Knicks beat ended in 2024, but Knicks-related subjects remain part of Katz’s work. That continuing focus should not be read as meaning that he still holds the same team-specific assignment.
